Create a Bootable USB Drive and Install Windows 7 Using a USB Drive - How to?

    We are going to discuss about how to create a bootable USB drive and install Windows 7 using a USB drive or Pen drive.Most of the people faces a common problem that while installing Windows on their computer is their CD/DVD drive or their disc is not working properly. Many times the disc became corrupt and the installation stops at a particular point. So there has a problem on the installation of Windows in systems. The main problem is that the CD/DVD became corrupt and have file missing.

Importance Of Bootable USB:

    Many of the computer users faces the problem of the installation disc. So they prefer to create bootable USB drives to install Windows OS. There is an another problem faced by the users of Net Book , there is no CD/DVD drive ,so they have to install windows using an external drive or a simple to create a USB drive and can easily install Windows to any Net Book computers.

Requisites To Create A Bootable USB:

    Now you can make a bootable USB drive of Windows and you have to follow a very simple process. This bootable USB can be used to install Windows OS in PCs, Laptops, Notebooks, Net books, etc. that don’t have an optical drive. You should have the following materials to create a bootable USB drive
  • A USB Flash drive, a minimum capacity of 4GB.
  • Windows 7/vista setup files.

Steps To Create Bootable USB Drive:

  • Backup all the files from the USB drive to different location.
  • Open Command Prompt with ‘Administrator Rights
  • Note the letter of the USB drive from My Computer
  • Now, type DISKPART in the command prompt as:
  • A new window will open as shown in the image below::
  • Now type LISTDISK and note down the number of the USB drive,as shown in the image below:
  • Here Disk 1 is the USB disc.(Here a 1GB USB stick is used for the image purpose,Make sure your USB disc is 4GB or more).
  • Now enter the following commands one by one and press enter (It assumes that USB stick is Disc 1,if your USB stick is Disc 2 make sure to enter Disc 2 instead of Disc 1).
  • Formatting may take in few minutes, be patient, image shown below.
  • Now insert your Windows 7/Vista DVD in your Optical Drive and note down the drive letter.
  • Type H: CD BOOT and hit enter. (Assuming that H is the drive letter of Optical drive)
  • Type CD BOOT and hit enter.
  • Type BOOTSECT.EXE /NT60 I: where I is the USB drive letter. This command will update the drive with BOOTMGR compatible boot code.
  • Now Exit the command Prompt and copy all the files from the DVD to USB drive.
    Now your Bootable USB is ready and you can use it to install Windows 7/Vista to any computer by changing Boot Priority to USB from the BIOS setup menu. If you have any problems related to this Trick please feel free to ask your quarries in comment section below..
